This is another one of those regularly asked questions. As a bedding expert I have learned that most consumers are needing answers to the same questions. A mattress is one of the most personal item you can purchase. In todays world companies are spending millions of dollars trying to get consumers to make decisions faster and scale down the shopping process. This can be a good thing for some products, however I have found that mattresses require more attention and hands on experience. There are several sleep quizzes and right mattress for me tests online that can help tremendously in the initial stages of research, however in order to get a well rounded experience you will need to test out several options in person with the guidance of a sleep or bedding expert. Every mattress manufacture spends a lot of money advertising their offerings with bold claims hoping you’ll feel that “this is the best mattress for me”. Be careful not fall into this advertising trap. I’ll let you in on the Big Secret of the mattress industry. There Is No One Size Fits All. Period. Your body is so unique that you will have to try many options with proper guidance to find the right fit for you. Below I will give you several things to look for while testing out new mattress options as well as tips to find the best place to buy a mattress.
- Test out several options including different Brands, Comfort Levels, Styles, & Price Ranges. (This gives you the most comprehensive method to make a great decision).
- Don’t have comfort bias. (Ex. If you think you don’t like firm your bedding rep might withhold options that could would have been perfect for you. The terms firm and soft are subjective. Many times a customer will tell me they want firm and go with something that really is more medium to soft. Keep your options open).
- Find the best place to buy a mattress. (Research the closest mattress gallery that has great reviews, top consumer ratings, best bedding expert team, and wide variety of products and price ranges).
- Check with your local Physicians, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, and friends to get a good recommendation. (You shouldn’t have to shop at several mattress stores if you find the best first. This will cut down on a considerable amount of shopping anxiety and allow you to get to what matters).
- Don’t have brand bias. (The bedding industry has so many great mattress makers to choose from. Be careful about being married to one specific brand. You don’t want to miss out on a new technology that might take your sleep to the next level).
- Have a positive outlook and expect great results. Enjoy the process of shopping to ensure the best possible outcome. (Be careful not to buy to heavily into the negative advertising that online mattress in a box companies adhere to. Bed in a box mattress brands have a business model based on creating fear in their customers to make a quick decision so they can make a buck. You deserve much better than this).
